Why ask a pharmacist before buying a supplement?
- Interactions. Some supplements can affect how prescription medicines work, including blood thinners, some antidepressants and the contraceptive pill.
- Doubling up. It’s easy to take the same ingredient in two products without realising.
- Whether you need it at all. Sometimes a blood test through your GP is the better first step, for example if you think you’re low in iron or vitamin D.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. We can help you choose supplements that are appropriate at each stage.
Talk to a pharmacist about whether a supplement suits you and your medicines. Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
Which vitamins and supplements do you stock?
- everyday multivitamins and single vitamins and minerals
- pregnancy and pre-conception supplements
- children’s vitamins
- fish oil and omega-3s
- probiotics
- sports and active-lifestyle supplements
- practitioner ranges, including Metagenics
Brands include Blackmores, Swisse, BioCeuticals, Nature’s Way, Nature’s Own, Bioglan, Herbs of Gold, Ethical Nutrients, Cenovis and Ostelin. Ranges vary, so ask us if you’re after something specific.
Do you stock practitioner ranges?
Yes. Practitioner ranges are usually recommended after a conversation with a health professional. We stock a range of Metagenics products and can special-order anything else from their range. More about Metagenics at Pacific Fair.
Can supplements replace a balanced diet?
No. Supplements may help fill gaps in your diet, but they don’t replace a balanced diet and they aren’t a substitute for medical care. If you have ongoing symptoms such as tiredness, see your GP. The doctors at Help Medical, an independent general practice located inside our store, can help.
Can I shop in store or order on Uber Eats?
Both. Visit us on the ground floor of Pacific Fair any day we’re open, or order vitamins for delivery on Uber Eats across the Gold Coast.
Common questions
Can I ask a pharmacist before I buy a supplement?
Yes, and we encourage it. Our pharmacists can check whether a supplement suits you and your medicines. Advice is free and no booking is needed.
Can vitamins interact with my prescription medicines?
Some can. Certain supplements affect how medicines such as blood thinners, some antidepressants and the contraceptive pill work. Tell us what you take and we’ll check before you buy.
Which supplements are suitable in pregnancy?
It depends on the stage of pregnancy and your own health. We stock pre-conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding supplements, so ask a pharmacist to help you choose one that’s appropriate for you.
Do I need a blood test before taking iron or vitamin D?
Often that’s the better first step. A blood test through your GP shows whether you’re actually low. The GPs at Help Medical, an independent general practice located inside our store, can arrange one.
Do you stock practitioner ranges?
Yes. We keep a selection of Metagenics products on the shelf and can special-order anything else from their range. Ask in store or call us to order.
